Temporal resolution in cardiac CT

Photography is an art as well as a science . Similarly radiology is both an art and a science . Getting high quality pictures for diagnosis depends not only on the costliest machine but the right machine with the right specifications as well as the best technique of getting the image .

For those new to cardiac CT its very important to understand the concept of temporal resolution . These days its fashionable to ask for the number of slices in a scanner and the cost as if thats the only thing that is important . Its surprising even when buying a scanner which costs crores this specification is given only equal importance along with many other factors . But just like if you are going to do sports photography you go for a camera with a very good shutter speed, when you go for a "cardiac CT" this parameter  is one of most important  . This time resolution ability or temporal resolution  depends crucially on the rotation time of the scanner . So slices are definitely important but temporal resolution is more important in a cardiac scanner .

For students in both biomedical engineering fields as well as radiology which are both cutting edge areas a clear understanding of this concept is important especially those who plan to work in high end radiology departments and for interviews .

watch this space for more key concepts like DLP , perfusion etc over the coming days
